WB,
I don't know. The attraction is its potential volatility, up or down.
I think what your trying to tell me is,Vinik has hedged his bet, with the big bucks coming if it takes the big hit down and only a small improvement if it only grows, say 5 or 10%.

William,

I have a boxed position on AMZN (and on AOL). When boxed, it only uses up 5% margin at FIDO. When I want to short, like Vinik, I just sell the longs. No waiting for an uptick, as you say.

Having said that, I've still managed to lose money on both positions so far. But I'm no Jeff Vinik.
