Although the rumor mill seems to peg BCE, we must remember that Compaq already owns 4% of Mpact if not more. I had asked someone at the company if it was Microsoft, I was told that it was not . I was also told that everything was in the hands of the lawyers and looking for an announcement at the beginning of June. Another rumor that has been circulating on the street in Montreal is a $40 target and a near term $27 target.

My guess is that this would only happen if a buyout bid would occur, followed by a bidding war.

BCE and Compaq both have money to spend. There are about a dozen companies that try and do the same as BuyWay for e-commerce, as far as I can understand Mpact is far ahead of all those companies. The key is that they have to stay ahead of the competition and a strong backbone is what they would need even though they just raised money through a $6.5 private placement with the largest position bought by the Montreal Police's pension plan.
