Dear Christine, Thank you for your thoughtful post. <<I cannot justify the atrocities that have been committed against the Palestinians any more than I can those against the Jews, and think it particularly horrible that a persecuted people would turn around and act in the same way they were treated, which caused them such incredible pain>> Is this not the excuse used for the Palestinians using stones to kill people, body bombs, terrorist acts of bombing buses, etc.. The were oppressed so they are forced into it. I have decided there are no easy solutions to the struggle for land. I will say that the Palestinians have not endured a tiny portion of the persecution the Jews have received and they seem to be justified in their violent behavior. How about the progroms in Russia when so often entire towns of Jews were told to leave their homes in a matter of days and were then severly beaten while they were quietly leaving. This was minor compared to the Holocaust. I hate what is happening but like I said it is complicated and Clinton has even admitted that the Palestenians are not upholding anything they promised and need to stop the violence to proceed. Would the Jews terrorising the Germans or Arabs for their horrendous acts of cruelty been justified? They just decided they were tired of the ridiculous oppression and went home and found they had to fight to stay there too. The Palestinians did not ever desire to let them settle there when both groups have a well documented history there. <<And I think it is particularly absurd that the Zionists believe God gave them Israel. They have no stronger claim to it than the Christians and Muslims, for whom it is also very significant, historically.>> Even though I personally believe God did allow them to find some element of rest from the major persecution they had received, I will point out that there is the Doom on the Rock untouched for their worship and many Churches throughout Israel for they are a democratic State that does not practice intolerance of other religions. If there is concern for the Muslims one must look to Bosnia. Who spoke out the loudest to aid Bosnia? Was it not Elie Weasil and the Holocaust survivors? They are trying to find a way to stop the ignorant violence and it is not easy. <<I don't condone terrorism, or violence as a way to solve problems, but in the case of the Palestinians, it is a predictable reaction to acts by the Jews against them.>> I will say the same that the Jews being met with resistance in Israel (Palistine) after all they had been through was a predictable reaction to their situation. Have a great week ahead, Nancy
