[ More on the A/D Line ]

This A/D site is really good:

decisionpoint.com

It gives charts of the DJIA dating back to 1926 with the A/D Line. I guess I've found something to occupy me for a while; I'm now doing a little study on the relationship of the A/D line to the DJIA from 1926 to 1998. Let's see what I come up with.

Regards,

Rainier

Hi Rainier, I think most of the charting services in general give:
# advancing issues
# declining issues
# unchanged issues
advancers volume
decliners volume
unchanged volume
# new closing highs
# new closing lows

for each of the following: NAZ, NYSE, and AMEX

There are so many zillions of indicators constructed from these (sums, differences, ratios, etc) and smoothed in different ways that it's easier for them just to provide the raw data and let people construct whatever they want.

For example, the STIX indicator that Bill asked about on the TA science projects thread is exactly the same base calculation as Marty Zweig's Breadth Thrust index, but with different smoothing periods.

Hell, if we can assign a new name to every indicator by just changing the smoothing interval, we could all be famous!

BTW, hardly anyone uses the "Unchanged" data. I think there's significance in the variance of this data, but not standing on its own. Haven't played with it enough though.
