FT, There were a number of events and people responsible for the emergence of the computer industry. Von Neumann was certainly important. There was also the invention of the automatic loom which used the first punch cards to control machinery, the punch card tallying machines on Ellis Island, transistors, an unlimited government budget to develop new machines, and many other things. Bill Gates' contribution was relatively trivial and could have been done by many others at the time. He has been rewarded way out of proportion to his contribution. He is mostly a plagiarist, an egotist, and an arrogant marketer of himself.
