Coke is in a difficult position regarding Y2K. While they may get their own factories compliant in time, they have a lot of bottlers and distributors that are "independent". So even though Coke is able to produce the syrup, all people will really care about is whether the local store has the product. So if they start to advertise their readiness, they also have to be sure the independents are also, or they have a public relations nightmare. On the other hand, if KO makes it across the finish line, and Pepsi doesn't, KO automatically wins market share. On the surface, it seems KO would benefit more at this point by keeping a low profile.
