sorry for your lack of humor and knowledge (keep posting though, because that is irrelevant), but europe does have country content and restricts the amount of foreign shows. would europe watch more tv if the shows were better? american shows garner more viewership than local country shows. yes, europe would watch more tv if they allowed more foreign shows to be broadcast, would it be as much as the u.s., we won't know until the restrictions are removed on the amount of foreign shows allowed to be broadcast or the local country shows develop quality programming.

the internet on the other hand, unless sites are blocked (ala china), allows for content and information to flow freely and habits to be compared. will europe catch the u.s in the interent craze, depends on what type of local content is offered, the infrastructure increased, ...

Birtrand- I'm with you.

My perception of Europe is very second-hand, although a close friend is a professor who studies the EU. I have a lot invested in the idea that Europe will be the largest area of Networking growth in the next few years.

My fundamental belief is that Europe and America are more widely different in business culture and consumer habit than Americans would like to believe. There is no simple explanation for this, such as Television.

I would find it very funny if you are presently in Europe! Is this true?

Bertrand,

I've got to agree with blankmind about the quality of
television in Europe. I have lived there, it's been a
while though, and my parents presently live there.
TV programming quality is pathetic to be kind.

The bottom line is that they show all of Hollywood's movies,
and similar type products. Hollywood makes huge bucks
because it factors in a global market and not just the US
market. The Europeans on one hand don't like it because
they think their culture is being invaded, but they have
the choice, and they choose to see most of Hollywood's
crap - along with the music and other US cultural things.

Not, only is this true in Europe, but many of the countries
in South America. I know. I've spent time there, and
seen many the popular movies at theatres for instance. 75%
are American and dubbed in Spanish. People complain of
the spread of American culture, yet they hypocritically
purchse a majority of the products. If you don't believe
this, all you have to do is look at the distribution
profits from most of the Hollywood movie blockbusters.

Now, I'm not saying this is an explanation of why they
don't spend more time watching tv (that their own products
are not as popular), but US entertainment products are the
most profitable world wide.

The Internet in Europe is already taking off big-time!
It's only natural that different cultures will use the
Internet in different ways. The Europeans are searcing
for their relation to the Internet just as Americans
are. We are all in the birthing process of an information/
entertainment revolution. All of us will approach it
differently, but all will need Network equipment.
