A footwear faux pas -

Last evening I attended a church service. As I stood to join
the congregation in singing praises for the collection just taken,
I made a horrifying discovery. My shoes, while indentical in style,
were different colors. Black and Brown.

So during the ensuing sermon I replayed my encounters with
acquaintances while entering the church, and I was able to
satisfy myself that none of them displayed a "I see your shoes
but I'm too polite to say anything" look on their faces.

Then I reasoned that the shoes, after all, were not that much
different, as the brown shoe was cordovan, a darkish brown that
was much closer to black than, say, saddle tan. And I felt
fortunate to have followed the advice of a shoe salesman who
recommended shining cordovan shoes with black paste wax.
"It will take off the reddish edge and give them a richer look,"
he said.

Increasingly desperate for rationalization, I concluded that my
mercifully matching socks managed to pull the visual mishmash
together, albeit minimally.

After the service, I completed the pew-to-auto trek in record time
and heard not a single snicker. Praise the Lord.

Well I'm sure they meant that in the nicest possible way. They were really saying that you look so great in person, that they found it hard to believe that a mere photo, especially from the Texas DMV, could capture all of your fine qualities.

Of course the picture would do me no justice as I post on line, as I wasn't wearing my tuxedo that day.
