Gateway Acknowledges its CPUs Are Good for Two Years.

I don't know how many of you all caught Charlie Rose's interview of Gateway's CEO, but Mr. Rose asked what Gateway was doing about product obsolescence.

Said CEO (forgot his name) said that it was Gateway's policy to offer a trade-in policy after two years.

This is a tacit admission that it makes sense to trade-in even Gateway's *top-line* products after 24 months for a token reimbursement. If so, what is the realistic lifespan of of its "under $1,000" products?

This is what I think Steve Jobs was referring to when he said the iMac was "tomorrow's technology for $1300 vs. last year's for $1000."

If they can keep pounding that idea home, as well out exploiting the G3 advantage as a server solution, they're going to sell *a lot* of hardware.

Excellent post Soup! Bravo!

Anyone who skimmed that post because it was too long, better go back and have a read before they ever buy or sell another block of stock.

Well done... you've been really hot lately and deserve more credit. Keep it up. That one goes on the refrigerator.
