Great story, since we are into sharing, I have one. Something Monica is rather shall we say reticent to have revealed. First you must know, there is a large proportion of ethnic Asians living in the Bay Area. This is affecting our local culture in a myriad of little ways, from watching out for the slow driver, to kareoke becoming a mainstream form of local self-entertainment, to diversity of restaurants and grocery store content, but I diverge... At night when the TV shows are either too violent or trite, sometimes when channel surfing we will happen upon the local Asian channel giving broadcast to Japanese situational movies. Their themes involve familial interaction, business strife, risk, loss, humiliation, triumph, etc. Most are subtitled in English for the monolingual amongst the audience. Well we recently started reading the lines aloud, well actually we roll play. This is our form of kareoke-compensation, since neither of us should ever be allowed to publicly release any form of singing verbalization for humanity's sake. So there we sit Saturday night, I play the male roles, reading my lines and expressing my feelings in concert with Yahiro, Shigeo, Kasunobu, and the elderly Tomoyasu, while Monica reads for Reiko, Yuuki, Kiyomi, and the matron Kazuki. The scripts read with a deep inner emotional intensity unmasked by spare spoken words to wit: Reiko and Yuuki are twin sisters, married respectively to Yahiro and Shigeo. Tomoyasu and Kazuki are the twins parents. Not sure exactly how Kasunobu and Kiyomi fit into the scheme of things but that just adds to the event. Reiko finds out she is pregnant and Yahiro is deeply supportive but they don't tell anybody yet, Yuuki goes to the doctor with feelings of pregnancy also while the idiot Shigeo parades around to all his family and friends proudly preannouncing that he is now a father-to-be. Of course there is great commotion and embarrassment when he learns that Yuuki is somehow having telepathic sympathetic pregnancy signs with her sister. Unfortunately Reiko, faced with real pregnancy is torn between her work-a-day world goals as a professional Majong master. The family owned perfume exporting business is under threat by mismanagement due to Yuuki's inexperience in running the company as their parent's are trying to retire from the work, and Shigeo's butting in and mishandling the daily decisions (he used to be a lowly clerk and married upwards). Or something like all taht. Hilarious but you have to be there...
