Hmmm.....

Sounds pretty inefficient to me. If I was CPQ I would move my quality control to the manufacturers site and drop ship the units that pass. Shipping and handling costs are not trivial.

As I recall, there was another news piece about this practice.
It had to do with CPQ getting 100 inventory turns per year off the subzero boxes. This would be possible with the drop shipping approach from a 3rd party manufacturer. The transaction then becomes CPQ taking paper ownership for a few days.

So I think you are probably wrong about the drop shipping.
