Ok I will try to anser:

Q1 If DF-144 becomes to the industry what we all seem to agree it will, there will be a buying spree at some point that will cause the shorters to head for the barn.

That is correct

The magnitude of a 1B/year business will overcome at least for a time any thought of shorting the stock IMO and the price will have to reflect this as institutions start buying 500K blocks and they will. So my question is why worry about the shorts now?

Because shorters are going to rip it apart like a disease and the MMs will capitalize on it. You want the shorts to beware of shorting your stock plus not giving them a opportunity to arbitrage. Taking sjorters ligthly is no a good idea because they have already figured out how to capitalize before they do it. Now the are always hoping for a base of weak or naive investors that is like honey to a bear or blood to a shark.

Q2 Do you think that they will run a reverse split to get the price over $5 so that institutions will buy it?

Nope I do not heck they only got 2.5M at the present time on the common and 240K in the P ... ??? that train thought does not make any logical sense to me. Now I am accustomed to people always fearing the dreaded RS. If it had 40M in the common float I might worry.

Might I add if they get just one plant up and running that is 36M dollars projected accumulated profit for one year that would equate to $0.90 book and if two I really do not want to go there ... $0.90 book is about $9.00 - $20.00 the stock price can support.

I could be wrong though but I hope this helps
