Study Shows Merit Of Buy-and-Hold

An excerpt from a story in today's Washington Post:

By James K. Glassman

Sunday, May 31, 1998;

After a week like the one just past -- with economic troubles deepening in Asia and
Russia, bombs bursting in Pakistan, and stock prices bouncing all over the place --
you're probably tempted to sell some of your losers, cash in some of your winners
and maybe trade them for some shiny new shares.

Don't.

Two finance professors from the University of California at Davis have just
completed a study that confirms the sound principle of buy and hold forever. "Our
central message," they conclude, "is that trading is hazardous to your wealth."

Well, we already knew that, didn't we?

No kidding and these are the same ones that would tell me to sell at a mere double out too.
