What do you believe is the main contributing factor to our generation viewing promiscuous sex as more acceptable than the generations before us?

Whose generation is "our" generation? I'd say that "ours" as in, you know, "ours" ("older people") took a considerably more tolerant view of "promiscuous" sex than does today's generation.

And do we really want to go back in history? Sex is sex, and nothing much really changes.
