Lucent Technologies In Tentative Pact With Unions

TRENTON, N.J. (AP)--Two unions representing one-third of Lucent Technologies' workforce called off a strike after a tentative agreement was reached Monday morning.

Jim Spellane, spokesman for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, said the agreement was reached at 2:05 a.m. No details were available, he said. Spellane added that union and company leaders were expected to meet today at 2 p.m. to "iron-out details."

Spellane said members of IBEW and of the Communications Workers of America were told to report to work as usual.

The union strikes resulted after their contract expired at 11:59 p.m. Saturday and no resolutions were reached surrounding wages, pensions and health care benefits by late Sunday or early Monday, union leaders said.
