Re: bad for PC makers

These negative comments put pressure on these stocks, but it still remains to be seen.

1. Win98 coming out soon.
2. WinNT 5.0 I think coming out this fall.

Two very positive things.

Mike

Phil:Well Maria is a good looking girl but that doesn't mean she knows much about the PC business.<gg>

Then when she finally said it was only Merced production she said it would be bad for PC makers. Why would it be bad for PC makers?

Because somebody told her to say that <g>. This "delay" may turn out to be not so bad (IMO) for several reasons: 1) buyers who were waiting for Merced will now buy instead of waiting and 2) people who are buying today will have the current "hot" machine for longer than 2 weeks. Believe it or not, people (and companies) do not relish the thought of buying new PCs for departments and have them be less than top-tier machines by the time the reach the user's desk. This "delay" will help the perception that their user's have the latest PC techhnology.

I would not be surprised for people to look at this delay in the Merced chip and change their tune in a few months.

Phil,
When Maria says some info will be good or bad for a certain sector or stock she almost invariably means that info will be good or bad for the company's stock price in the next hour or two, at most a day. You have to remember she thinks she is covering a football game and that only one play at a time.

Delay to the upgrade cycle that is not as relevant a point as it is made out to be.
