Silicon based compounds have been used successfully as ELECTRODES in fuel cells. But whether silicon can actually be used as a membrane for proton exchange, this sounds outright funny. It reminds me with the claim of cold fusion several years ago. I would like to see some further details about the Japanese claim before I can say that it has any merit.

(by the way, my PhD wasn't in fuel cells. I'm not pretending to be an expert here). regards..
