Brazil: Informix invests US$10mil

Informix, a supplier of databank solutions, is investing US$10mil to expand its operations in Brazil, setting up new offices in Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia, hiring new professionals, and expanding its distribution channels to seven companies, and partnerships for 70 to 300. The company will focus in telecoms, retail trade, manufacturing, finance, government and health sectors. Informix sales in Latin America represent 11% of its world turnover, and Brazil alone represents US$29mil in 1997, a figure 61% higher than 1996. Prospects for 1998 are to a 50% growth in sales to US$43.5mil. It has 1,000 users and conquered 40 new corporate customers in 1997, with manufacturing industry representing 40% of its installed basis.
