One question is the availability of work. Wealthy immigrants may make their own way....where will a disadvantaged person work?

I don't see anyone complaining about Australia....I remember 10 years ago when I enquired about the country they were only accepting immigrants with credentials. Engineers, doctors, and so forth. This ia a country that, like America, was used by England as a dumping ground for prisoners early on.

I don't know if the economy can support the influx of low socio-economic individuals any longer. Australia appears to have made that choice quite a long time ago itself.

Bermuda is another example. Foreigners, in Bermuda, have to purchase a 1.2 million dollar home...last I checked...to gain residency.

I'm certain there are many countries with stiff immigration laws. What's the problem with that? When countries like the U.S. had more relaxed laws wealthy immigrants were in short supply, I would wager.

I imagine they would be again, if the country had the economic difficulties of coping with high unemployment.
