Short term lurker, been waiting for an entry point. Like the story over the next two years, but sure is acting ugly in the meantime.

Ausdauer, you are correct regarding the CCD. Its transistors create electric analog currents in proportion to the intensity of the light striking them (much as your voice is converted in the phone network to electric signals by the intensity of your tone). The current is then sent to an ADC which then sends the digital signals to a DSP for processing. I guess the article said the CCD and ADC would be on one chip? Sounds interesting.

Regarding SNDK, I like it for the following reasons (many of which all of you have very intelligently posted in the past):

1. Patent portfolio and royalty stream
2. Mkt leadership (dominance?)in general flash and compact flash mkt
3. No OEM accounting for more than 10% of sales
4. Extraordinary growth projected (60-80% CAGRs)in their mkts
5. VERY reasonable valuation at this point (with $4.50 in cash/sh)

Risks? Falling prices, Asia, other competition, adoption of consumer market products (dig cameras, intelligent cell phone etc.) All legitimate and deserving of attention.

BTW, I post on several threads and I must say the posters on this thread are among the best informed and lively bunch on SI.

Aus and Jerome -

Pls check this out it makes very very interesting reading:

post.messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com&mf=426

there is also a post with the marketing manager of Viking who apparenlty welcomes any enquiries about their products or royalty arrangements.

Sorry to moan but this is beginning to look very serious.
