The positive thing about such an article is the additional attention for Y2k (apart from wether the arguments carry any merit).

I totally agree with your observation. It's an application of the classic
*Strawman* tactic which essentially entails re-creating the target you
wish to shoot at in a form more fitting to your ammunition.
