++ot Dot Wireless Offers Advanced CDMA Development Platform
VLSI Technology and Dot Wireless Jointly Develop Advanced CDMA ASIC Solution
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 1, 1998--Dot Wireless(TM), Inc., today announced its advanced development platform for IS-95, the air interface protocol for North America's CDMA standard.
The San Diego-based start-up's flexible development system allows wireless handset manufacturers to quickly attain a complete, verified and supported air interface package - including reference designs, software and development tools. The development platform will greatly simplify next-generation CDMA handset development, while compressing time-to-market and minimizing R&D risk.
''CDMA handset providers are scrambling to marshall the wide array of resources required to produce highly distinctive offerings for CDMA,'' noted Dot Wireless President and CEO Rick Kornfeld. ''By providing the system design, protocol and application software, as well as an exhaustive suite of development tools, we enable our partners to rapidly develop highly integrated, low cost and power efficient systems for CDMA markets worldwide.''
Kornfeld said that the company's initial CDMA development is focused on a baseband application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) which is currently being developed under contract for VLSI Technology, Inc. (VLSI) of San Jose, California. As VLSI Technology has a history of introducing highly integrated, low power wireless semiconductors, this CDMA development is expected to enable a new generation of low-cost, power efficient, high performance handsets.
''We chose to partner with Dot Wireless because of their extensive knowledge of CDMA technology and the needs of the wireless industry,'' said Mark Brine, director of North American Wireless Products of VLSI Technology, Inc ''Our wireless semiconductor expertise, combined with Dot's CDMA industry experience, will bring the partnership of VLSI Technology and Dot Wireless to the forefront of wireless systems development.''
Dot Wireless' core development group offers a broad scope of CDMA product development skill sets, such as digital wireless systems engineering and systems integration, digital signal processing, ASIC design, digital and RF circuit design, and software design. The company's founder and CEO, Rick Kornfeld, directed the team that developed the world's first commercial CDMA handset, the QCP800. Dot's team gained its invaluable wireless product development experience from such industry leaders as Motorola, Nokia, Nortel, Qualcomm and Sony over a broad range of standards, including GSM, AMPS, CDPD, PHS and PDC.
Dot Wireless, founded in June 1997, develops, licenses, manufacturers and markets advanced technology components for wireless communication products such as digital cellular phones, wireless local area networks (WLAN), wireless local loop terminals (WLL) and other digital communication products.
The company is located at 6650 Lusk Boulevard, Building B-103, San Diego, Calif., 92121-2774. For more information, please visit Dot Wireless' web site at dotwireless.com.
