Was INTC's Merced chip pre-announced to freeze out the PowerPC ?

" Not much news to discuss really. Most of Apple's news has been pretty good lately. I
guess we're just in a major correction. "

Merced's delay is news - good for AAPL , bad for INTC .

INTC may have to answer the "preannouncement" question to the FTC and AAPL's G 4 PowerPC 64-bit RISC CPU may show up by year-end .

Apple's revenue growth will return when it gets that super chip from IBM , which IBM will be using in its RS/6000 and AS/400s by year-end .

" ... the "new" news is that IBM may be working with Apple to provide a better
price/performance ratio in the motherboard chipset, and that with IBM's help, Apple may be
able to release a G4-based machine with reasonably good OS-level support around the time
of Macworld San Francisco in January 1999. "
