Merced problem is overblown -

Fact is, delay of Merced means delay of Osbourne effect - Intel will sell more Xeons through 1999 as people do not delay purchasing for Merced systems.

Given that Merced is a new architecture, I guarantee you the margins and costs of it are poor compared to Xeon.

I'd rather see 4x and 8x Xeon servers selling than Merced servers any day. Fact is, IA32 is what is delivering the money. Merced is about the future, but Intel is not losing sales due to lack of 64-bit. Not many, anyway.
