Hi Eric - Novell entered into several partnerships to exploit the NEST technology. However, I have not been able to find any follow-up information on the status of those partnerships. Perhaps someone that worked on the various projects could share some information with us.

Do you remember if Novell detailed any of these programs in their SEC filings?

Mike Sheridan and NEST

I wonder if it would be worth an Email to ask Mike Sheridan if he had ever heard of NEST.

The question I have is which components would a network appliance need? It has to be able to execute JAVA code, communicate over a wire with a TCP/IP protocol, collect local data and respond to JAVA commands sent back to it over the wire.

Are there any systems out there that could do this without requiring Windows CE? In other words how simple can the network appliance be made to be. It needs to collect data, transmit data and execute commands to operate the appliance. The controlling "program" can be run on the server.

Sheridan has just finished investigating all of this at SUNW. I wonder if anyone knows what he did there?
