I liked My Life As A Dog but you are right it was dark.

I saw a great Chinese movie tonight, with a happy ending (by Chinese movie standards- those of you who have seen Raise the Red Lantern, Red Sorghum, Ju Dhou, Shanghai Triad etc etc etc- will know what I mean- the main characters actually survive in this movie!!!) The movie is The Wooden Man's Bride.

Also saw The Mystery of Rampo- if anyone out there likes surreal film making, this is the movie for you. I really liked it. It reminded me a little of Kurosawa's Dreams. It is a haunting movie.

I also finally saw Richard III (the one with the WWII era staging) and as I suspected I didn't like it. I had put it off because I was pretty sure it wouldn't be to my taste. I tried to watch Burnt by the Sun but I got bored and fell asleep. So I can't recommend it. I wanted to rent A Pure Formality, Bandit Queen and Living in Oblivion but they were checked out. Has anyone seen any of those movies? Are they worth seeing?
