ESC technology

esc-tech.com

I called their sales today. This is how their operation works:
If you want a MB/ram/chip they put it all together and test it.

If you want just the motherboard, you tell them what chip you
will run in it. They will then configure the MB for your chip and
test it out before mailing.

They said there is real no reason to check the Corsair Ram
because there is less than 1% failure rate.

Here is a Price structure:
ESC prices:
128 Corsair ECC SDRAM: $362
Asus P2B MB: $172.47
PII 300: $423
TOTAL ==$957

This is what I'll do:
128 Corsair ECC SDRAM: $329 from Aberdeen
Asus P2B MB: $172 tested and configured from ESC.
PII 300: $257 - 3 yr warranty (can't remeber the name at pricewatch.)
TOTAL == $750

Any thoughts on CD and floppy drives and sound cards?

I do little with sound so will probably go with a cheap one.

S.W.

Humidity is the major facilitator of static. If its low, watch out . If its above 50% then less likely. Don't walk on rugs, wear nylon or wool. Use common sense.

Static is a killer though. Biggest problem is that it may just weaken a component for a later fail. You be surprised what the internals of static damage looks like.

Use care with CPU, RAM and HDs when installing/touching. Try to use electric outlet that is 3 prong and really has ground wire run. Static wrist strap and mat isn't required but isn't bad idea or practice either.
