CS, delays in future price cuts are possible, but it was going to be a long time before high performance, 64 bit chips would be seen in lower end PCs anyway. In fact, the 166 and 233 Pentiums in the low end boxes now are more than adequate for most Web surfing consumers. As someone else noted, the 'net's current shortcomings have more to do with the phone system.

In addition, further price cuts in Pentium boxes may be more a function of inroads made by competing, non-Intel chips than of any 64 bit chip planned for introduction in late 1999, now pushed into 2000.

Anyway, to blame the breakdown in the big-name 'net stocks on this sounds more like analysts who ignored fundamentals for too long just looking for some external factor to blame for their bad buy recs. Look for them, after pinning the blame on Intel, to then present their case for why it doesn't matter after all and why investors should buy these stocks again. Call me cynical.

Regards,
Bob

Merced is not just for servers, but was the next generation to replace pentium, no?

CS,

I believe the Merced is a high end chip for servers. That was my understanding but I have been incorrect many times in the past<G>
