>>I understand what the last paragraph is asking. Perhaps someone else could address this, or you might clarify a bit.<<

Assuming three drives. The first one is NTFS, the second FAT 32 and the third FAT 16 . The BIOS looks at the drives in the above order. I then boot NT. What drive letter designation does the last drive get D:? (Reason is FAT 32 drive is not recognized.)

I have a dual boot NT/win95 machine. I have not noticed any operating system creep.

I experiment a lot ( would like to experiment more ). With separate physical drives I stand a better chance of having a working machine if I screw something up. Maybe it's part of a backup plan. The hours I spend rebuilding configurations would better be spent elsewhere.

I believe the cleanest and simplest backup solution is to copy one hard disk to another. One then needs a simple methodology to boot the clean disc. My first preference is to be able to accomplish this from the keyboard. I am thinking out loud and do not yet have a focused solution in mind. ( no clearly defined problem either)

One use of my home machines is to develop concepts for work. Trial and error does not go over well at work.

Once Street Walker teaches how to assemble a new machine I plan on trying it myself. I have not been able to resolve the NT vs Win95 issue so it seems inevitable that I will need both.

Hard drive prices and new BIOS options and RAID options seem to offer a multitude of opportunities. Trying to sort them out looks like it will take some time.

Thanks for your input.
