TRIKON TECHNOLOGIES AND LSI LOGIC ANNOUNCES JOINT
DEVELOPMENT OF LOW K DIELECTRIC APPLICATIONS
09:17 a.m. Jun 23, 1998 Eastern

NEWPORT, Wales--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 23, 1998--Trikon Technologies, Inc.
(Trikon) (NASDAQ:TRKN) announced today that it had reached agreement with
LSI Logic Corporation, Santa Clara CA (NASDAQ:LSI) to jointly develop low K
dielectric applications for Flowfill on sub 0.25 micron devices.

Low K dielectric materials allow semiconductor devices to operate at higher signal
speeds than current dielectric materials allow.

"The importance of low K dielectric material to LSI Logic's technology roadmap will
drive acceleration of this joint development program" said Rich Schinella, Vice
President Wafer Process R&D and Santa Clara Operations, LSI Logic. "Flowfill low
K offers potential for ease of integration over competitive approaches. We have
enjoyed a long working relationship with Trikon, who have supported us well over the
years."

"We have worked with LSI Logic and their engineers for many years and greatly
respect their engineering and manufacturing capabilities and experience" said Dr.
Adrian Kiermasz, Vice President of Technical Marketing at Trikon. "This joint
development will enable us to refine our Flowfill equipment and processes so that we
can better meet the industry's critical demands. Most low K materials present major
challenges to CMP and barrier processing. We believe that our unique process offers
significant advantages in these areas.

"A close relationship with a leading edge user like LSI Logic will accelerate our
developments and ensure Trikon offers production-ready equipment and processes to
meet the industries most critical specifications. We are pleased to be working with
LSI Logic on this."

Trikon provides a broad line of advanced manufacturing systems used for three of
the major processing steps in the manufacture of a semiconductor device: physical
vapor deposition (PVD), chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and etch. Trikon's
corporate headquarters and main manufacturing site are located in Newport, South
Wales, United Kingdom.

"Safe Harbor" Statement Under the Private Securities Litigation Act of 1995: This
press release contains certain forward-looking statements, including, but not limited
to, the potential applications of low K Flowfill, the advantages that low K Flowfill
might offer and the acceleration of the development of Flowfill products. These
statements are subject to various risks and uncertainties that could cause results to
differ materially, including, but not limited to, management of joint development
efforts, economic and political developments in Asia, semiconductor industry
conditions and changes in technology. For other risks attendant to Trikon and the
semiconductor manufacturing equipment industry, please see the Company's SEC
reports, including, without limitation, its annual report on Form 10-K, quarterly reports
on Form 10-Q and current reports on Form 8-K.

DSP Center and LSI Logic Announce Agreement to Partner on
DVD Design Support In China - 09:19 a.m. Aug 05, 1998 Eastern

BEIJING, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- LSI Logic (NYSE: LSI) and DSP Center, a
Beijing-based consumer electronics design house, today announced that they have
entered into an agreement to jointly provide engineering and technical support to
original equipment manufacturers of consumer DVD players. This agreement will
enable OEMs to quickly and cost effectively produce highly-differentiated DVD
players for mainstream consumers markets in China, as well as for export to other
countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, DSP Center has adopted LSI Logic's DVD
Decoder chip and DVD player reference design. The first DVD players based on
this relationship will be available to consumers in the fourth quarter of 1998. The
agreement with DSP Center is part of an ongoing strategic effort by LSI Logic to
increase its presence in Chinese electronics markets. In support of these initiatives,
LSI Logic is also opening an office in Beijing this week.

"DSP Center was instrumental in providing the design and engineering assistance
that led to the widespread adoption of the Video CD player as the dominant
consumer video format in China in the early and mid-90's," said Alain Bismuth,
director of DVD consumer products at LSI Logic. "Working together with DSP
Center today, we believe that we can make it easy for manufacturers to adopt LSI
Logic's DVD architecture, spurring the migration from Video CD to DVD as the
main video format in China and other parts of the world."

"Chinese consumers are demanding higher quality audio and video," said Li Jianhua,
Director, DSP Center. "We believe our working relationship with LSI Logic is a
major step in the development of the market for DVD players in China. The LSI
Logic architecture offers a powerful combination of attributes -- including cost
effectiveness, high-quality DVD performance, and the possibility of differentiating
end products. Most importantly, the LSI Logic DVD player is backwards compatible
with Video CD. If we can design DVD players at a price point close to current
Video-CD players, DVD's superior video capabilities will win over the consumer
market in China."

Dipak Raval, LSI Logic's Managing Director for Pan Asian operations said, "We are
extremely excited that DSP Center chose LSI Logic for their DVD player solution.
DSP clearly has a leadership position for VCD player solutions in China, and the
decision to use LSI Logic's L64020 DVD decoder is a endorsement of the value LSI
Logic can bring to our customers in China."

The LSI Logic DVD Player manufacturing kit provides comprehensive software and
hardware components, enabling manufacturers to ramp-up to high-volume production
quickly and cost-effectively. Through software modification and feature selection,
manufacturers can use the kit to develop designs for specific markets and price
points.

The L64020 DVD Decoder at the heart of the manufacturing kit provides the
industry's highest quality trick-play modes. These include picture search, freeze
frame, frame advance, frame reverse, and variable speed play. The LSI Logic DVD
decoder also provides more advanced trick-play features such as menus,
multi-camera angle, zoom function, synchronized fast-forward of video and audio, no
"fade to black" in search functions, and no "video tearing" during fast-forward
searches. Using LSI Logic's DVD decoder chips and DVD player manufacturing
kits, manufacturers can use these unique features to ensure a high level of product
differentiation.

"DSP Center adopted the LSI Logic manufacturing kit so they could customize and
optimize designs for specific price-point and market-segment requirements,"
continued Bismuth. "The kit is complete and cost-effective, yet it still provides the
opportunity to customize key functions such as user interface or the Karaoke or 3D
sound."
