Maybe Rendition will have a second chance. They have a good idea with the Conspiracty Project. The big surprise at Hercules' booth was the Hercules Thriller Conspiracy. Combining the technologies of a Rendition V2200 and Fujitsu's Pinolite chipset, the board will give just about any CPU (regardless of clockspeed or floating point performance) more than decent 3D performance. The goal of the product is to allow gamers with Pentium class machines to put off making a CPU upgrade for another year or two and in this, it succeeds and at a price point of only $150. First generation 3D accelerators implemented the rasterization directly in hardware. Second generation 3D technology added triangle set-up (Voodoo 2, Rendition V2200, etc.), still leaving the geometry and lighting to be executed by the computer's main processor. Moving these functions to a second specialized, Fujitsu Pinolite geometry and lighting processor have resulted in significant 3D performance improvements without requiring the use of faster and faster main processors. The Fujitsu Pinolite is a highly integrated 32-bit FP/integer arithmetic front-end processor, also integrating a PCI interface and a PCI bridge to communicate with the Rendition V2200.
