Paul, so basically what the article you posted says is that you can't get a 300 MHz Celeron yet. Thanks for the clarification.

Kevin

Paul,
How things have changed. From AMD and Cyrix just happy to get a chip in a tier one to now dominating the sub-1200 market. It's almost sad when you have to bold the part about Compaq offering a Celeron system. Not that it doesn't show that there will be a 300MHz Celeron mind you but that Intel has turned into a "me too" company with this dumbed down chip. It's like, hey guys, can I come to the party with my sister?
Also notable in the article is the K6-266 based system to be offered by HP. Yet another "Intel-only" boxmaker bites the bullet. This is getting to be a habit. That leaves Sony, Dell and Gateway. After Gateway falls that will leave "high end" Michael Dell...and Intel will feed him chips at nice prices, BTW. Sony gets their boxes made by Intel so they will likely remain loyal for a while too.
List of former "Intel only" retail top tier boxmakers.
Compaq-defected
IBM-defected
Packard Bell-defected
Dell-loyal
Gateway-loyal, soon to defect IMHO
NEC-defected
Fujitsu-defected
Hewlett Packard-defecting
Acer-defected
CTX-defected before becoming top tier
Sony?-loyal by default
