Akidron, I'm sorry if I mischaracterized your position. I think we are in total agreement. The free markets that libertarians envision are pipe dreams. Our economic success depends on maintaining structural, economic and human infrastructures. The economic history of the US in the middle part of the 19th century is very interesting in this regard. A group of English industrialists visited a factory where muskets were being made. The Englishmen marveled at the fact that musket making could be learned so rapidly -- in Britain it was an art handed down from father to son. The factory owner pointed out that his workers could read, and thereby leapfrog over years of on the job training. And, he pointed out, this was made possible by tax-supported schools.
