RT, another mix of the pro VVUS release: **************************************** Tuesday June 2, 8:41 am Eastern Time Vivus says impotence treatment found to be safe MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., June 2 (Reuters) - Vivus Inc. (VVUS - news) said Tuesday that results of a large clinical trial of its Muse impotence treatment confirmed earlier findings that the Viagra competitor is safe and may aid patients with even severe erectile dysfunction. Vivus said data from the study of 2,591 men with moderate to severe organic erectile dysfunction, in trials throughout the United States and Europe, will be presented today at a meeting of the American Urological Association in San Diego. Analysts have said Pfizer Inc.'s (PFE - news) oral treatment Viagra works best with patients with a milder impotence problem while Vivus's Muse works better on those with a more severe problem. Vivus's product comes with an applicator that is inserted into the tip of the penis. The applicator discharges a pellet that delivers a drug that brings on an erection within five to 10 minutes and lasts for up to an hour. ''This study confirms earlier findings that Muse is a safe product,'' said Dr. Richard F. Labasky, lead investigator of the study and assistant professor of surgery at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City. ''What's noteworthy is we've been able to follow patients who have been using Muse for more than two years and the safety profile has remained very consistent. This study group included men after prostate surgery as well as those with severe vascular disease and diabetes, which highlights the safety of this drug in an organic dysfunction population.'' Muse has been used by more than 600,000 men in the United States since January 1997. *************************************** I'M from KY (g) Frostman --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
