David, I'll grant that by listening to Fleck and, as a result, being out of the market for the last three years would have cost some serious missed gains. I haven't been reading or following him for long enough to know whether his advice was really to avoid the market or whether he was simply making a case for being short certain stocks or sectors of the market. My guess is the latter (that is his profession), but that's not the point. It bugs me when the perma-bulls, when presented with bearish evidence or arguments, choose to smear the source rather than debate the issues. I guess this shouldn't really surprise me though. That's how politics works these days, why not business and investments too?

BTW, I think those who were early in saying to buy stocks before the bull market began in 1982 were also ridiculed for having been so wrong.

David Linn, I believe that Fleck was up 60% last year. I think I read that in Worth magazine.
