Very interesting post, Chuckie!

I've always thought they were a good fit, too, but the issues certainly go deeper, as you pointed out. Maybe it's more a question of standing back from company politics and trying to evaluate.

It's too bad John Warnock hates Director, 'cause it's come a LONG way as a piece of software. IMHO it would fit into the Adobe camp beautifully. But then again, has Pagemaker really gone anywhere with Adobe since the Aldus merger?

IMO PageMill isn't an issue. I think there are deeper issues with WYSIWG editors in general, but Dreamweaver would be a major acquisition.

Photoshop is the king of PC graphics and keeps Adobe going. Fireworks looks to be a very interesting companion app, though trying to put them in any kind of a competitive relationship isn't worth discussing.

And then there's Illustrator and Freehand ... now there's a conundrum! There was lots of speculation on this one with the Aldus merger, and it was great to see Freehand revert to Altsys, and it was a shock when Macromedia picked them up. But the program has flourished. But with a merger -- the really tough call!

Just some more opinions...
