When it rains, it pours. FTC considering possible lawsuit against INTC for anti-trust violations. This isn't new news, except that the report below says the FTC is one step closer to possibly suing INTC. But then again, if INTC actually is sued, that could be the bottom for its stock price (as far as the lawsuit factor is concerned).

FTC staff recommends antitrust suit against Intel

WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) - The U.S. Federal Trade Commission's top litigator has
recommended that the commission sue Intel Corp. (INTC - news) for alleged antitrust violations,
sources familiar with the case said on Tuesday.

A source said the commissioners are likely to vote on the recommendation early next week.

The FTC has said that Intel holds a monopoly in microprocessors for personal computers. The suit is
expected to allege that Intel illegally used its monopoly power by cutting off customers who will not
share intellectual property.

Neither the FTC nor Intel would comment.

''We don't have any comment on speculation in reports on the status of the FTC investigation,'' said
Chuck Mulloy, a spokesman from Intel.

The case is based in part on an Intel action against Intergraph Corp. (INGR - news). Intel cut off
Intergraph from information and samples it needed to conduct its business during a dispute between
the companies. A federal judge granted Intergraph a preliminary injunction against Intel.
