Brian..

Well so far I'm stuck 11/16 on my short of KO. I don't see a lot of homework which needed to be done. Coke's dividend at 0.8 % is not safe haven stuff to me. The current P/E is WAY above it's annual growth rate.

I think it's a good short hedge. I'm long my other stocks, and KO shouldn't have too much upside potential. On the other hand, it could easily correct to to $60-62 area.

I also see some antitrust action..I know Coke is not willing to supply some who carry Pepsi..that's un-American and besides Pepsi tastes better.

The "trigger" was still just a gut feeling.

Brian..I appreciate your reply to my post on Coke. I'll check out their website.

I'm not bearish on KO for the long term, but I do see a correction in the blue chips coming. It's possible there will be a "ralley" in the tech stocks causing a temporary flow of money from "safe haven" stocks like GE, PG & KO back into that area. After this, a general correction could bring the Dow down 15% or so.

I would not be surprised to see an excellent annual report with a lot of potential for Coke. That's, no doubt, why it's selling for $80/shr. At some point I expect the small/mid cap stocks to outperform the Dow.
The rest of my portfolio is long in this arena.

Good investing to all...

JO

Brian...I'm doing some homework...thee book value is a little over
$300 per share. The earnings are expected to be flat for 1998 compared to 1997. This quarter estimate shows a decrease compared to quarter last year.

The company has been buying it's own stock steadily..reducing supply and, perhaps, allowing officers to exercise options at good prices.

Why is this stock selling at current P/E?
