Dragonfly, neat article; thanks for the link. Here in Northern California, the local RBOC just announced with much fanfare that they are going to offer xDSL for $50/month starting "soon" whatever that means for a RBOC.
A guy whose techie knowledge I respect says his bet is that xDSL will be the solution winner for the last mile simply because it preserves that multi-bazillion fixed infrastructure sunk cost in copper wire common to all the Bells. A very pragmatic choice and some big time companies are behind it (Texas Instruments to name one).
Still think the dish-on-the-roof solution has more than a fighting chance and as a consumer think it's nice we'll have a choice. Or is it premature to rule out cable modems? Mike Doyle
