Jim P.,..Re: <<I think the Q1 miss was the first sign that a big disapointment is coming.>>

DELL DID NOT MISS Q1 ESTIMATES. They beat estimates by $0.02! What is the problem here? Why are you trying to distort excellent performance? The future is anybody's guess and you have a right to your opinion; however, you shouldn't extrapolate incorrect data to make irrational decisions about future earnings.

As long as there are preferences and unlimited configuration choices, PCs are not commodities. TVs, washing machines, toasters are commodities. Do you have a huge choice of options there? Answer = NO.

First, PCs are not a commodity. Salt is a commodity; oil is a commodity; automobiles are not commodities and neither are PCs. A commodity can be defined as a product whose origin and branding is of total disinterest to the consumer. If you want to say that there are a lot of manufacturers competing for a limited market don't confuse that with commodity status.

You're right that Compaq screwed up. The reason that they screwed up is what I provided you with in my last post. Because you are so ardently bearish about Dell, let me give you some early warning signs:

1. Component prices begin to rise rapidly;
2. Technological advances come to an end;
3. One in four Chinese owns a PC;
4. There is a recession in the US;
5. Dell buys another company.
