---->in fact I will call Waterhouse sometimes and they will say
we have not heard back yet
and I will say
please call and find out
and then they say
we will send a message out
and I might hear back 5-10 minutes later while I am on the phone waiting to find out about the order

thanks for saying that--
I'd been toying with opening an account with them , actually exchanging my Schwab account for one with them......
even eschwab isn't anywhere close to that poor.......

the MFI account that I use on the phone takes normally less than 15 seconds from the time the trading floor answers til I get a confirm....
with them, my main objection is price, better than 100 bucks , but for speed, I can't gripe......

what i really hate, is when i see my order go through(unusual size or price...i know its mine) and the broker, can't or won't confirm the fill... as much as 30 minutes later....you can put in as many four letter words or symbols as you see fit.

The problem I think you may have....is that Waterhouse is clearing through a firm that uses RAES.

So you are waiting for the middleman to get a response...best guess.

When I trade equity/index options I get an instant fill if it's at market. You are probably not getting that because your firm goes to someone else and then they wait until that firm lets them know, most likely.

If you are trading options and you need good fills, open another account with a firm that has the access....just a thought.
