Bandwidth Heaven - Who Will Win the Hearts of Home Consumers?

Like Florence during the Renaissance, the Internet is giving birth to new concepts and revolutionizing the way people work, learn and play. Revolutionizing? Well, that is until users hit one of the inevitable speed bumps along the way -- those traffic jams along the Information Highway that take content moving at the speed of light and drag it down to a mind-numbing crawl. This aggravation has users dubbing the Net as the World Wide Wait.

Through the combination of new technologies and increased competition, the World Wide Wait is no longer. Swelling public and government interest is making high-speed Internet services the hottest topics in communications. With billions of dollars in investments, telephone and cable companies link home users to the Net at lighting speeds -- as high as 300 times faster than standard dial-up modems -- giving a much-needed boost to the Internet and transforming it into a viable mass medium.

Who will win the hearts of consumers? So far cable Internet services have set the pace. But the race is far from over, and telephone companies are starting to get traction. On Tuesday, June 9, at 9:30 am, the National Press Club will host @Home Network CEO and Chairman Tom Jermoluk to discuss the challenges, opportunities and realities the cable and telephony industries face in deploying high-speed Internet services to the home.

Event: National Press Club "Morning Newsmaker" news conference with @Home Network CEO and Chairman Tom Jermoluk

When: Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at 9:30 a.m.
 Where: National Press Club
The National Press Building
14th and F Streets NW 13th Floor
Washington, D.C.

Was the estimate for NN 14 cents, and did I just read 12 cents?

Will the street accept these numbers with open arms, or sell?

Only tomorrow will tell us for sure.
