My feelings exactly Maurice.

For reference, a GSM to GSM cellular call has a 200ms delay.

I'm not going to argue with a rumor. A rumor presents no facts.

The facts are undisputed, and I don't think your comments are supported by them. However, since your comments are on the level of opinion about subjective things without specificity, I don't see any benefit to pursuing this.

If, however, you would like to debate it, lets define specifically what we are talking about and see if we can get to some solid conclusions.

"Globalstar satellites are also fewer in number so propagation distances are increased by more than the altitude effect. 1414 km versus 850 or so. The average distance will be about 2000 km for Globalstar and only 1000 or so for Iridium [maybe you allowed for all that though you did say twice as high, which Globalstar isn't]."

Maurice, the altitudes given by previously posted View from Satellite Link (http://www.fourmilab.ch/earthview/satellite.html) shows 1400 KM for G* and 778KM for I*. Fairly close to 'twice', don't you think?

Maurice: According to the most recent Lehman Brothers report on the May 21st Iridium analysts conference the voice quality, as reported by the service providers is excellent. IMO a much more reliable and verifiable source than the mysterious rumor.
The voice delay issue has been beaten to death many times in the past. As I remember, everyone pretty much agreed that I* had a potential for some delay due to space switching and G* had the potential for delay due to the higher altitude and repeated bounces from earth-to-satellite-to-earth-to-satellite. Consensus agreed that there could not be any definitive answer until both are in service.
