I'm a sales guy and having your database local is the only way to work. From a synchroinaztion perspective using the internet to transfer the delta changes is the best way I have seen synch being done.

So to take a fairly dumb client and change it into a thin client - why not?

Poet, philosopher, software geek. And now, in your spare time, you're opening a lyposuction clinic for Hollywood starlets. Wow! If you only spoke French.;-)

Seriously, I understand your concerns about Web access and localized information. If the latter is really a problem, it seems simple enough to address through compatibility with personal schedule/calendar/address book software that could automatically synchronize files when you are online, much like many people do with their new 3Com Palm III when they drop it into the cradle on their desktop. The heavier info like customer information (beyond address book stuff), project status, planning, coordinating the sales team, etc. require up-to-date information and communications. If there is something they want to have access to for a meeting or to use when they won't have access, they can download it. They will have other applications on their computers besides the browser. As for Web access, have you ever seen a typical salesman's cell phone bill? Staying in touch (unless, of course, they are avoiding their boss) doesn't seem to be a problem. Come to think of it, some of the features might actually help reduce their cell phone bills.

Regards,
Bob
