DF, I'm seeking facts by exposing the rumor. Iridium can stop a rumor instantly by demonstrating some calls with third parties with 200ms delay and hifi sound quality. Easypeasy! Even fun to do and a bit of advertising for free.

The rumor is supported in the historic facts of the respective terrestrial systems of which these space systems are analogs. Maybe it is more FUD than fact, but FUD can be dispersed by facts.

As you say, nothing much to debate, factual sources are now needed. There seems no reason that Iridium need suffer unacceptable delays or poorer voice quality than GSM, but Iridium is more than a string and a couple of cans, so there are ways for it to go wronger than terrestrial systems.
