*OT* Clark: I think whale blubber is best served par-boiled, with perhaps a dash or a
touch of parsley, sage, rosemary and/or thyme (say about a « pound each),
accompanied by a subtle wine (130 proof GaoLiang or MaoTai, for example). Perhaps
a digestive afterwards (better yet an entire case) would be advisable, although some
people I know carry around a portable stomach pump for just such occasions. Your
server's smiles remind me of the story of someone who dives into a pool (not knowing it
is unheated) in 0§ weather and calls out to those remaining pool-side, "Come on in! The
water's fine!" Perhaps the server just wanted company.

If the Asian crisis is causing you to melt down, I am not sure escaping to Iceland will do
you any good, given the wonderful volcanic hot springs, and, at this time of the year,
endless daylight. Iceland is on my "relatively" short list (I do have a shorter list) of places
I want to visit before I can travel no more. Rumor has it that alcoholism is a raging
problem there, but I think it worth the dangers of succumbing to it to view the site where
Ronald Reagan single-handedly won the Cold War by impressing upon Mikhail
Gorbachev the hopelessness of Gorbachev's efforts to delay research into and eventual
implementation of the much-maligned Strategic Defense Initiative. I guess that time
proved him (Reagan) right then (about the collapse of the Soviet empire) and that
current events (proliferation of nuclear and biological weaponry) will prove that an
impartial world-wide missile defense system (offered and refused at Reykjav¡k) is the
earth's best hope of preventing mass destruction.

You speak Icelandic? I am suitably impressed! Although it is off-thread, please do share
your Icelandic investment ideas with the group! Take care and pleasant journey. Randy
