Boeing is the only airplane maker left in USA.
Just defense contracts for Billions of dollars are sure things.
It is also always best to buy awesome companies when the news on
them is all bad. Boeing has a virtual lock on Billions of dollars in
very profitable sales to USA ( Bombers and many other hi- tech weapons) .
Saw a Stealth Bomber fly very low over Ojai, CA last month. These are awesome fighter planes and Boeing will always be making awesome planes.

Your friend, Michael

A new short idea - Boeing (BA)

Qantas has traditionally been a really loyal Boeing customer. They just announced that after a very detailed evaluation they will be buying and upgrading a few used 747s (at Australian $30M each) instead of going with brand-new planes from Boeing at $200M each.

No doubt the Asian Contagion has reduced the price of used planes.

Qantas also didn't like the in-flight entertainment options on the new planes. They found that the video screens in each seat emitted too much heat and added too much weight to the plane.

This evidence tends to support your theory.

Bill:

An friend of mine was an old hand in the air freight biz. He owned a piece of a number of large jet aircraft over the years. (Not an insubstantial investment for a sole individual.) He indicated that they are going to discontinue making the MD-11. He believes that this shows that the Boeing/McD-Doug. marriage was not made in heaven and that they are having a hard time assimilating everything. Problems could run deeper than appear.

Boeing (BA) blows up.

Boeing's business suffered greatly (as expected) and the company delivered an anemic earnings report.

The stock has hit my price target of <42 and I covered most of my postition today. I hung on to some of the short just in case the market in general continues to stumble. I'll cover that if the stock starts crawling back near 43.
