>>One thing that shocked me....I thought was illegal. I still can't believe it. But these are
trade officials so I guess it's true. They said if Funds get an excess of cash flow they can
hedge by buying futures. This fouls up my mind and I have to think about it for a while.
A mutual fund that can legally put the money to work in futures. I have to check that one
out.<<
there are several funds which carry substantial positions in the futures all the time: look at RYNVX, RYURX, UOPIX, URPSX, ULPIX etc.

How do you think "my" Rydex funds operate and track so nicely with the index???, not to mention the regular joe fund that can have a portion in the SPoooo's as per prospecti.

* fred slaps pat upside the head..."wake up boy" <gg>

for starters see some of the pure players:
RYNVX it's 1.5 Beta of the SPooo's/SPX Index.
Then you have the RYURX its -1.0 Beta ...aka a short SPX Fund.
For the OTC they have the RYOCX which is 1.0 beta to the NDX - Naz 100 Index. No negative beta OTC fund yet at Rydex...but other groups like Potomac have one already.

Patrick,

I learned...aside from what the people will be wearing on Letterman...that the futures and futures options are handled no differently from the cash market.

How did you think it was handled differently?

TSO is a lot deeper than this discussion was....no disrespect to TSO. Just, this was supposed to be a seminar provided by the CBOT.....what it proved to me is that I can come up with the same wacky synthetics I did when I was trading stock options. I don't need some guy from the CBOT to tell me this.

I have observed you and TT and Kevin and Donald, and I have to give alot of my understanding about the like from listening and asking Q's to you studs and Lisa's follow-up questions.

They said if Funds get an excess of cash flow they can hedge by buying futures. This fouls up my mind and I have to think about it for a while. A mutual fund that can legally put the money to work in futures. I have to check that one out.

I am not at all knowledgable about that, but I thought I had heard that somewhere before too.. Fund Hedging...

I hope you didnt pay for the seminar?

There is all these shows on tonite about the big game tomorrow. I am getting excited about it.

Tried to get some upper nose-bleeds to the game but didnt. They were selling for about 30 and can be sold on the market for 200-300 likely more at game time.. Will try to get some for games 6-7.

Weather turned south, windy again, so now what willI do when i get bored tomorrow afternoon?

Sorry my reply took so long...
