It's important how you do your search. If you simply type in your name with a space, then many thousands of links will appear, most having nothing to do with you. A better way to check is to include a "+" sign between your name. Alta Vista is case senstive so brian kerecz would not yield the same # of responses as Brian Kerecz. The latter is the correct way in doing an SI search since that is how I have my handle.

BTW, I periodically check how efficient AV is and the number of my posts indexed has increased from the 200 range earlier this year to greater than 500 now. Still only a fraction of the total posts. As for the purging of indexes(links), I doubt it since space is becoming exponentially cheaper. In addition, once a page is indexed the spyder will go back to check for additional web pages at that specific site. It kind of creates a roadmap for the spyder for future indexing. Eliminating a link would make this impossible and probably create more work for the spyder, though I am not certain of this since this is by no means my bailiwick.
