I think the volatility is driven by momentum players more than almost anything else. The ECM companies have about the best fundamentals in the tech sector, so they can't be ignored after any selloff. The market cap of all the stocks in the sector combined is probably less that one large cap stock. Put the two together and you have exceptional stock price oscillations around a healthy upward earnings trajectory.
